MobileDance offers a series of weekend workshops in Community Dance.
Professional development for artists and teachers who work with children, young people and amateurs of all ages.

#1: The choreographic toolkit
How do I choreograph with people who may never even have heard of contemporary dance before?
The workshop content covers: improvisation, working with the unique movement vocabulary of participants, choreographic approaches, the development of movement and performance abilities of amateurs as well as case studies of previous projects.

#2: Dance in schools
How do I lead pupils and teachers through the creative process in the school context?
Practical ideas and case studies exploring how to break the ice with young people, to encourage them to join in and to both support and challenge them in their first encounter with contemporary dance. The workshop can also cover ideas for working with the school curriculum if desired.

#3: Integrated dance – disabled and non-disabled people dance together
How do I adapt my work to the integrated context?
Practical approaches to technique class, improvisation and choreography with disabled and non-disabled dancers.

#4: Dance for camera
How could I work with video in order to engage the interest of young people?
This workshop is designed for artists/teachers with little or no technical experience and includes practical exercises in improvisation and choreography for the camera as well as examples of previous projects.

#5: Out! – site-specific dance
How can I use public spaces as the location for choreographic projects in order to reach people who might otherwise never have contact with contemporary dance?
Ideas, case studies and practical tips on how site-specific projects can bring together diverse people who live and work in an area.

#6: Portraits – “documentary dance”
How do I work with the life stories of project participants?
The workshop includes approaches to sourcing stories through improvisation, movement tasks, writing, talking and drawing, as well as ways to work with life stories respectfully to create “portraits” of the performers and examples of previous projects.

The workshops will be adapted to your needs, whether, for example, you wish to get young people moving or if you work with intergenerational groups.

DETAILS

Workshops take place on two consecutive days from 10.00 – 17.00. Shorter workshops are possible. It is also possible to combine two of the workshop themes. MobileDance is happy to accommodate your needs.
